How We Meet Medical Needs Throughout Northeast India

Shanti Bhavan Medical Center

Shanti Bhavan Medical Center opened to the public in February 2014. “Shanti Bhavan” means “House of Peace.”  The hospital campus consists of a 125-bed hospital, an outpatient clinic, and apartment buildings for doctors and nurses. The nurses’ living quarters also serve as an interim place of education and training for nursing students. Inside and outside the hospital walls, we provide care to thousands of native villagers each year.

Community Health Leaders

Not only does Shanti Bhavan Medical Center (SBMC) serve as an outpatient clinic and hospital—but it also serves as a medical education center. The staff at SBMC trains classes of village men and women in basic healthcare so they can return to their native villages as trained medical practitioners.

Rural Medical Services

The Rural Medical Services team helps meet the medical needs of the impoverished villages located in and around the 6,000 remote communities near the hospital. This team also looks to meet these underprivileged groups' emotional and spiritual needs by offering counseling and spiritual guidance. They spend time with people in each community while teaching them life skills and educating them on basic hygiene, sanitation practices, and more.

COVID-19 Pandemic

Hundreds of thousands of people in India have been impacted by COVID-19. As the only modern hospital available to many of the people we serve, we are dedicated to providing specialized care to those affected—but we need a separate facility to do so. That’s why we’re building a new Covid Annex Building to meet our community’s greatest needs.

The COVID-19 pandemic is devastating communities across India. We are the only modern hospital available to many of the people we serve.
